About the Company

Our client is a well-established, multidisciplinary consultancy delivering high-profile commercial and mixed-use developments across the UK. Known for their technical expertise and collaborative culture, they work on complex office and workspace schemes, integrating design management, health and safety, and regulatory compliance from project inception through to delivery.

As their pipeline continues to grow, they are looking to expand their London team with an experienced Principal Designer who can help manage Building Regulations compliance and pre-construction responsibilities on major schemes.

About the Role

This is a full-time opportunity for a Principal Designer (Building Regulations) to join a forward-thinking team working on large-scale commercial developments. You will take a leading role in managing and coordinating Building Regulations compliance across all design phases, while also overseeing health and safety planning in accordance with CDM 2015 regulations.

The position is ideal for someone with a background in architecture, technical design, engineering, or project management who is experienced in delivering large projects and can lead regulatory compliance and design risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Principal Designer under CDM 2015 for major projects

  • Plan, manage, monitor, and coordinate health and safety aspects during the pre-construction phase

  • Review and ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations

  • Coordinate risk assessments and mitigation strategies with the design team

  • Prepare and manage Pre-Construction Information packages

  • Maintain and contribute to the Health and Safety File throughout the design lifecycle

  • Liaise with the Principal Contractor and ensure smooth handover of responsibilities

  • Lead QA and compliance reviews with internal and external stakeholders

About You

You are a technically skilled professional with strong project delivery experience and a deep understanding of Building Regulations, design risk, and safety compliance. You enjoy working collaboratively with design teams and contractors and have a methodical, organised approach.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in a Principal Designer or equivalent role

  • Strong background in architecture, engineering, project management, or design health and safety

  • Demonstrable experience leading Building Regulations compliance on large commercial projects

  • Knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and experience preparing pre-construction documentation

  • Based in the UK with current or recent experience delivering UK-based projects

  • Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills

  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and Health & Safety standards (deep understanding beneficial, but not essential)
