The practice works across a varied portfolio of historic buildings, conservation projects and contemporary design, providing specialist expertise across architecture and heritage. This role offers the opportunity to lead a range of heritage consultancy projects, working closely with architects, clients and statutory stakeholders to deliver high-quality advice and assessments.
You will also contribute to business development, securing new commissions and building client relationships, while supporting the development of junior team members. About the Role
- Lead heritage consultancy projects across London and the South East, providing specialist advice, guidance and advocacy.
- Prepare conservation management plans, heritage impact assessments, statements of significance and capacity analysis.
- Undertake archival research, desk-based assessments and on-site analysis of historic building fabric.
- Support architectural projects within the practice, alongside delivering work for external clients.
- Prepare fee proposals, tenders and bids, contributing to business development and securing new commissions.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, architects, engineers, conservation officers and Historic England.
- Manage multiple projects, deadlines and workloads effectively.
- Support, mentor and develop junior team members, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility for team management.
About You
- A relevant degree-level qualification in architectural history, archaeology, building conservation, building surveying, town planning or a related discipline.
- At least seven years of relevant professional experience within heritage consultancy or a related field.
- Strong experience in archival research, historic building analysis and report writing.
- A proven track record of leading heritage projects and providing specialist advice.
- Experience preparing fee proposals, tenders and contributing to business development.
- A good working knowledge of current national and local planning legislation, policy and guidance.
- Experience working collaboratively with architects, engineers and statutory stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
Experience mentoring junior staff, GIS software, heritage planning or environmental sustainability would be advantageous. Membership of a relevant professional institution, such as IHBC or CIfA, and a UK driving licence would also be beneficial.
Benefits
- Flexible and hybrid working, with a minimum of three days in the office and up to two days working from home.
