About the Role
Our client is seeking a Principal/Senior Ecologist to join their growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and conducting a wide range of ecological assessments, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Protected Species Surveys (with a particular focus on bats), Protected Species Mitigation Schemes, and Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments. You will work closely with clients, providing expert advice and delivering high-quality ecological reports.
The role offers a mix of office and fieldwork, with the majority of projects located in London and Essex, although some projects may take you further afield. This position does not involve work on HS2, but offers a diverse and rewarding project portfolio.
As a key member of the team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the company’s strategic growth, mentoring junior staff, and playing a significant role in maintaining the company’s reputation for technical innovation and excellence.
About You
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum of four years of experience in ecological consultancy.
- Bat Survey Licence (Level 2).
- Strong skills in Preliminary Ecological Appraisal and Protected Species Surveys.
- Familiarity with Biodiversity Net Gain and its application in ecological assessments.
- Good knowledge of British flora and fauna.
- Understanding of wildlife legislation and the planning system.
- Excellent report writing skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Full driving licence.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Specialist experience in assessing and reporting Biodiversity Net Gain.
- Experience in applying for and implementing European Protected Species Mitigation Licences.
- Familiarity with BREEAM 2018 Ecology Assessments.
- Any additional specialisms or skills that you can bring to the team.
