About the Company

This is one of the UK’s longest-established multi-disciplinary engineering and design consultancies, employing over 700 professionals across 13 offices including London, Manchester, Cardiff, the Midlands and Glasgow. Despite its national reach, the company is proud to maintain an open, supportive culture more typical of a smaller firm.

Known for its collaborative ethos and commitment to professional development, this consultancy provides its people with real influence, meaningful work, and opportunities for progression within a wide-ranging and impactful project portfolio.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ecologist to step into a leadership role within a well-established environmental services team. Whether you’re currently a Principal Ecologist looking for your next challenge, or already operating at Associate level and ready to expand your impact, this role offers the chance to lead and shape the growth of a national ecology service.

You’ll be responsible for developing and managing a team delivering:

  • Masterplanning inputs and ecological appraisals
  • Protected species and ornithological surveys
  • Habitat and botanical assessments
  • Mitigation strategies and design
  • Post-construction supervision and monitoring

Projects span the public and private sectors and include major infrastructure, development, and renewable energy schemes across the UK.

About You

You’re an experienced ecological consultant with a strong consultancy background and proven success in managing complex ecological projects. You thrive in a leadership position and are motivated by both technical excellence and team development.

You will have:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental or ecological discipline
  • Strong knowledge of UK/EU wildlife legislation and survey methodologies
  • Expertise in at least one protected species group (e.g. bats, birds, botany)
  • Experience in project and client management
  • The ability to undertake and interpret Phase 1 habitat surveys and vegetation assessments

It would be great if you also bring:

  • Full membership of CIEEM
  • Experience in managing or mentoring teams
  • A track record of winning repeat business or developing new client relationships
