About the Role

The Design Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of projects, ensuring they are delivered within the specified scope, timelines, and budget, and meet the required quality standards. They must have a personal interest in staying abreast of project management areas and be capable of reviewing and validating scopes and deliverables according to international standards. The role requires strong communication skills, including an excellent command of written and spoken English.

You will need to be proficient in scheduling tools like MS Project and Prime Vera, with a sound knowledge of building codes and regulations. The candidate should also have experience in procurement of technical consultants and contract review, as well as resource allocation for design phases.

The role involves talent development, proactively demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired in the workplace, and organising internal training sessions for others. The Design Project Manager must be an effective and efficient team leader, possess a flexible working attitude and accept personal responsibility for maintaining the studio culture. They should have an interest in their own and team’s health and well-being and contribute to office initiatives, while respecting office and team timing.

The Design Project Manager should have effective client relations and relationship-building skills, manage client expectations, and demands, and engage with clients’ staff at the same level to articulate project design. They should also respect client confidentiality and obtain management approval before sharing images and work they are working on.

The chosen candidate must manage the commercial aspects of projects, fill in and submit timesheets in a timely manner, and be conversant with the contract terms and conditions, scope, and deliverables. They should also maintain close commercial control of the project and notify and update finance of when invoices can be raised. The role requires risk management skills, including participation in compiling a risk register and risk management plan for the project, reviewing the register regularly at team meetings, and updating it.

About You

The ideal candidate for the Manager (Design) position would be a degree-educated individual with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, preferably with a Master’s degree as well. They should possess certifications in PMP or PRINCE2, and certifications in PgMP or MSP would be preferred. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and solid software skills, with proficiency in MS Project and additional experience in Prima Vera being beneficial. They must also have an excellent command of written and spoken English.

You should be a member of UAE Society Engineers & AIA (preferred) and PMI (highly regarded), with registration with their home country professional body being highly regarded. In addition, you should have previous experience in an office environment managing multiple projects, as well as commercial management experience.

The candidate should have proven experience managing stakeholders, including client relations, and should be adept at project/stage reporting. They should have experience delivering projects independently across various project stages. Additionally, they should have industry experience in innovative practices, locally or internationally, or reputable local practices. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical, design, and management skills, combined with a passion for delivering high-quality projects that meet or exceed client expectations.
