About the Role

As a Principal Urban Designer, you’ll lead a multidisciplinary team and ensure that they have clear instructions and guidance. You’ll supervise and participate in advanced complex professional planning activities and assign work to professional staff while ensuring appropriate training is provided.

Your expertise in urban planning and urban design will be utilised to perform and manage complex and sensitive professional planning projects, research, and analysis, and to monitor and ensure compliance with local and international standards. You’ll gather and analyse data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting development and advise the Planning Director on all planning-related matters.

The chosen candidate will develop technical inputs to support the delivery of high-quality plans, reports, and presentations and confer with local authorities, civic leaders, social scientists, and land planning and development specialists to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, transportation, industrial, and community uses. You’ll also develop recommendations based on governmental measures affecting land use, public utilities, community facilities, housing, and transportation to control and guide community development and renewal.

As a leader, you’ll prepare work programs to translate project objectives provided by the client into detailed plans and take on the responsibility to subdivide work assignments and tasks to the project team. You’ll implement required measures during the project management process and lead the team by resolving any problems, technical issues, or deviations from plans to ensure that project progress is maintained as per plan.

In addition, you will maintain contact and coordination with multiple external agencies involved in the translation of the government’s development mandate and master plan objectives into work plans through maintaining meaningful working relationships to facilitate a shared understanding.

Finally, the successful applicant will support business development activities, including the preparation of bids, pricing, and content development, and prepare business presentations to promote the works of the planning studio. You’ll also support Key Account Management and nurturing Client relationships per business strategy.

About You

To be qualified for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning/Architecture or a closely related field, and preferably a Master’s in Urban Planning.

Certified planner certification is preferred at this level, and you’ll need a minimum of 15 years of progressive urban planning and design experience working on a variety of projects.

Experience in the Middle East is a must, and experience in producing master plans, conceptual designs, and illustrative layouts is highly desirable. You’ll also need to have excellent communication skills, be creative, and have a proven ability to perform in a lead capacity on a project.

If you are a talented Urban Designer and you are looking for a new and exciting position, this is a fantastic opportunity to join an expanding team of experts in the field.
